Universal Pictures has promoted Megan Bendis to executive vp, national publicity.
In her new role, Bendis will "directly oversee all theatrical publicity efforts of the broadcast, print, photography and field publicity teams in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto, as well as coordinate joint strategic efforts with the international publicity, digital marketing, special events, home entertainment, creative services, branding, distribution and media/promotions departments," the studio said Tuesday in a statement.
Bendis, who has been at Universal since 1999, was previously vp, national publicity and has overseen all Blumhouse Productions movies since that company's deal with the studio. Among those films are the Purge trilogy as well as the recent hit Split and the upcoming horror thriller Get Out.
She also worked on publicity for the Pitch Perfect and Fifty Shades movies and the campaign for the Academy Award-winning Les Miserables.
"Megan is a veteran of this close-knit department and has turned into such a shining star; it's especially gratifying to see her earn the opportunity to lead it," said Michael Moses, Universal co-president of worldwide marketing. "She's who you want at the wheel: a dexterous publicist, a disarming diplomat and a charismatic collaborator, someone who creates the good stuff and isn't daunted when it sometimes gets tough."
