‘Twilight Sasara Saya’ Tops Japan Box Office

TOKYO — “Twilight Sasara Saya,” Yoshihiro Fukagawa’s drama about a struggling young widow (Yui Aragaki) with a baby whose dead husband (Yo Oizumi) returns to the world of the living to help her, topped the Japanese box office on the Nov. 8-9 weekend.

In its first two days on release the pic earned $935, 524 on 82,140 admissions and 264 screens.

Rising from third to second place for the weekend was Christophe Gans’ “Beauty and the Beast,” which scored $987,000.

Dropping from first to fourth was “The Expendables 3,” which drove its cume to $3.7 million on 355,000 admissions.

Meanwhile, the fifth-place romantic drama “Close Range Love” expanded its total to $8.7 million on 819,430 tickets.
