TV News Roundup: ‘Big Little Lies’ Gets HBO Premiere Date, ‘Bones’ and ‘Rosewood’ Crossover to Air Dec. 1

In today’s TV news roundup, “Bones” meets “Rosewood” in a new crossover episode, Dolly Parton will perform on Tuesday’s “The Voice,” and more.

Fresh off their popular lampoons of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on “Saturday Night Live,” Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon will be on hand to light the 94-foot tall tree in Rockefeller Plaza for NBC‘s annual “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” special. This year’s show is set to air live Wednesday, Nov. 30, and will be hosted by “Today” anchors Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, and Hoda Kotb. “The Tonight Show” house band The Roots will attend and perform two songs, one of which will feature Anthony Hamilton & the HamilTones.

Big Little Lies,” HBO‘s upcoming limited series based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling book, will premiere on Sunday, Feb. 19. The series is described as a subversive, darkly comedic drama which tells the story of three mothers of first-graders whose seemingly perfect lives unravel to the point of murder. “Big Little Lies,” written by David E. Kelley, boasts a big-name cast that includes Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgård, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz, and will be directed by Jean-Marc Vallée.

“Rosewood” fans may find some “Bones” in an upcoming episode: Carla Gallo’s Dr. Daisy Wick character from “Bones” is stopping by on the Dec. 1 episode on Fox. Rosewood (Morris Chestnut) and Villa (Jaina Lee Ortiz) investigate a case that leads them to Cuba, where they must solve two new mysteries. Daisy comes into the picture when her old roommate TMI (Anne Konkle) brings her in from the Jeffersonian Institute to help the team decipher some evidence.

“Risky Drinking,” a cautionary documentary which investigates the broad spectrum of risky drinking at different ages and stages in people’s lives, will debut Monday, Dec. 19 on HBO. The documentary was made in collaboration with the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and presents case studies including a young professional whose weekend binge drinking exacerbates her fragile emotional state, a single mom whose drinking has gone beyond the social level, and an ex-pat whose heavy drinking finds him on the cusp of losing his son and wife.

SPECIAL APPEARANCES

Country music legend Dolly Parton will make a special appearance on “The Voice” on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Parton will perform her classic tune “Jolene” alongside “The Voice” coach and goddaughter Miley Cyrus, as well as a cappella group Pentatonix. She will also debut her single “Circle of Love,” which was recorded especially for “Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love” airing Wednesday, Nov. 30 on NBC.

Magic Johnson will host Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles in the next episode of ASPiRE‘s “Magic in the Making.” The show involves the NBA legend chatting with trailblazers like Biles about their road to success and what they aspire to do next. In the episode, which will air Tuesday, Dec. 20, Johnson will talk to Biles and her parents at their family-owned gym in Houston, Texas.

The upcoming season of NBC’s “The New Celebrity Apprentice” will kick off on Monday, Jan. 2, and the network has announced a bevvy of sponsors for the new batch of episodes. Tyra Beauty, Trident, Welch’s, King’s Hawaiian, Kawasaki USA, See’s Candies, Lorissa’s Kitchen, Universal Studios Hollywood, L.A. Clippers, QVC, The Honest Company and Carnival Corporation on Board are all on board for this reincarnation of the “Apprentice” franchise, which will see ex-California governor and action star Arnold Schwarzenegger reigning over the boardroom.
