Little was known about the film beyond a short IMDB logline that stated Tom would be playing a veteran soldier exiled to a distant planet, where he has to destroy the remains of an alien race. Moments ago Universal released a full plot description for the sci-fi actioner, co-starring Morgan Freeman, that shed much more light on the sheer scope of the picture (we also learned Oblivion was shot in "stunning digital 4K resolution").

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
