The Secret to Long-Lasting Reality Romance: Why 'Bachelorette' Couple Trista and Ryan Sutter Made It 10 Years

Reality TV couples last hardly longer than their 15 minutes of fame. Of the 25 "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" couples, only four have actually stayed together and gotten married.

So what's the secret to first "Bachelorette" Trista Rehn's 10-year marriage (with two kids) to Ryan Sutter? They stay out of the spotlight.

"We put everything else second to us being together and making a life," she told People magazine.

"If something comes up that we think is a great opportunity, we talk about it," she said. "It's about setting your priorities and truly committing to each other. You take advantage of opportunities that come to you but you don't let those take over."

"The Bachelorette" does have a higher rate of success than the original "Bachelor" franchise: Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum became the second "Bachelorette" couple to tie the knot last year.

On "The Bachelor" side, only Jason Mesnick married someone from the show — though she wasn't his original choice! He proposed to Melissa Rycroft in the finale, but later broke things off to be with runner-up Molly Malaney. They married and welcomed their first child together in April. And the most recent "Bachelor," Sean Lowe is still with Catherine Giudici; we'll see if wedding bells eventually ring for them.

There does seem to be a direct correlation between how much a "Bachelor" couple is in the spotlight and how quickly they break up. "Bachelorette" Emily Maynard and her fiance, Jef Holm, were all over Twitter and the tabloids, and ended up splitting after several months. Same with "Bachelor" Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson. A few seasons ago, "Bachelor" Jake Pavelka and fiancee Vienna Girardi were everywhere before breaking up.

Meanwhile, some "nonofficial" franchise couples are going strong under the radar. "Bachelorette 6" runner-up Chris Lambton married "Bachelor 10" contestant Peyton Wright. And Jesse Csincsak, who actually "won" "Bachelorette 4" (but didn't last with DeAnna Pappas), eventually married "Bachelor 13" contestant Ann Leuders.

As Csincsak told Hollywood Life of the show's many failed romances, "It's a job, not a relationship. [A couple] couldn't go to Starbucks without making news."
