Studiocanal’s Olivier Courson, Tandem’s Rola Bauer to Deliver MipTV Keynote
BERLIN — Olivier Courson, chairman and CEO of European mini-major Studiocanal, and Rola Bauer, prexy and partner of Studiocanal’s Tandem Communications, will deliver a joint keynote address at television mart MipTV in Cannes on April 8.
Under the title “Tandem/Studiocanal: European Sensibility — Global Appeal,” the keynote will highlight the companies’ international productions, and announcements of new productions for primetime programming worldwide. In addition, the keynote will cover how they are optimizing synergies and opportunities within Studiocanal.
Courson has built Studiocanal into a top European studio, among the leaders of feature film production, acquisition and distribution, and a leading international television studio with its acquisition of Tandem two years ago, and Red Production Company in December last year.
Among the many Studiocanal productions Courson has developed include: the Coen brothers’ “Inside Llewyn Davis”; “Non-Stop,” directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, with Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore and Michelle Dockery; “The Gunman,” produced by Joel Silver, directed by Pierre Morel with Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Idris Elba; and “Paddington, produced by “Harry Potter” producer David Heyman, and “Macbeth,” starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.
Bauer has pioneered international co-productions since 1985. She is exec producer of the NBC one-hour crime series, “Crossing Lines,” in production on season two, starring William Fichtner, Marc Lavoine and Donald Sutherland. The show was created by Edward Allen Bernero (“Criminal Minds”).
“Sex, Lies and Handwriting,” a co-production with Lionsgate, is the second one-hour drama series Tandem is producing since joining the Studiocanal family in 2012.
Tandem develops, finances, produces and distributes primetime programs for the worldwide market. “The Pillars of the Earth” and “World Without End” are two examples of Tandem productions.
