Starz Cancels 'Magic City'

Starz has canceled "Magic City" after two seasons. This Friday's episode will act as the series finale.

"We are tremendously proud of the series and everyone involved," Starz said in a statement.

"From the writers, to the cast and crew, it has been an incredible collaboration. This was a story born from Mitch Glazer's singular vision of Miami, the Magic City of his childhood, and we are grateful to him for bringing it to life on Starz. The season's story arc will allow us to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the series, and we thank all the fans who checked in to the Miramar Playa."

Jeffrey Dean Morgan starred on the series as Ike Evans, the owner of Miami's hottest hotel, the Miramar Playa. In order to keep it that way, Evans gets into business with Miami mob boss Ben Diamond (Danny Huston) -- a decision that had consequences.

"Magic City" also stars Olga Kurylenko, Kelly Lynch, Steven Strait, Elena Satine, Christian Cooke and Dominik Garcia-Lorido. Additionally, James Caan ("The Godfather," "Las Vegas"), Esai Morales ("Caprica"), Sherilyn Fenn ("Twin Peaks"), Jamie Harris ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes") and rapper Rick Ross joined on Season 2.

In a rare move for TV -- cable or broadcast -- Starz renewed the drama in March of last year, ahead of its series premiere. With no ratings available, the vote of confidence seemed to have been made mostly on the strength of its global distribution sales.
