Showtime’s ‘House Of Lies’, ‘Californication’ & ‘Shameless’ All Return Strong

Showtime saw a trio of series return last night with double-digit growth over their previous seasons. Back for its third season, Shameless garnered 2 million viewers at 9 PM, up 26% from the show’s Season 2 premiere and a series high. House Of Lies returned for its second season with 1.19 million viewers at 10 PM. That’s up 15% from the 1.03 million who watched the series’ Season 1 debut and 53% from the number of viewers who tuned in for the season finale. Californication was also back Sunday for its sixth season with 1.07 million viewers. The 10:30 PM airing of the Hollywood-based drama starring David Duchovny was up 41% from its Season 5 premiere viewership of 758,000. The premieres come on a free preview weekend for Showtime. Being that the network only counts subscribers, the actual viewership could be much higher.

The return of House of Lies came on the same night that the show’s star Don Cheadle took home the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Actor. It was a nice double-dose for the network and its entertainment president David Nevins, who ordered the pilot when he joined Showtime in 2010.
