Meryl Streep has done it again: The Oscar-winning actress has absolutely disappeared into a new role -- this time becoming Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady," an upcoming biopic about the British prime minister's rise to power in the 80s.

"The prospect of exploring the swathe cut through history by this remarkable woman is a daunting and exciting challenge," Streep, 61, said in a statement of becoming Thatcher, now 85.

Startling transformations -- and masterfully achieved accents -- are nothing new for Streep, of course: She became Julia Child in "Julie and Julia," an Anna Wintour-esque fashion editor in The Devil Wears Prada, an accused Australian woman in "A Cry in the Dark" and many, many more.

She added of her latest role: "I am trying to approach the role with as much zeal, fervor and attention to detail as the real Lady Thatcher possesses - I can only hope my stamina will begin to approach her own."
