‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: Welcome to the Prince Show

At least there’s laughter to bring everybody together!

Saturday Night Live will undoubtedly have a field day with this week’s election results, especially with comedian Dave Chappelle making his hosting debut. Chappelle has never been one to shy away from mockery, and his take on the election will be one to watch.

But we can also look forward to some crazy on-point impersonations. In his Comedy Central show, Chappelle displayed a knack for impressions, and one of the most popular was his lampooning of the late, great Prince.

Prince loved Chappelle’s performance — the two reportedly even became friends after the sketch aired — so is it possible we might see a repeat impersonation on SNL this weekend?

SNL has poked fun at the famously eccentric singer before. He’s been played by Billy Crystal, Chris Kattan and, more recently, Fred Armisen. Here’s one of Armisen’s sketches in 2004, a Christmas special with Robert De Niro. His Prince even does an impression of De Niro — “Are you talking to me?” he whispers. And then he treats us to his take on a holiday tune, with opened presents like a candelabra and a pair of neon skates.

Oh, Prince — RIP.

SNL airs a new episode with host Dave Chappelle and musical guest a Tribe Called Quest on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.
