‘Pure Genius’ Does Not Receive Additional Episode Order at CBS

CBS has decided not to order additional episodes of the new medical drama “Pure Genius,” TheWrap has confirmed.

While this does not necessarily mean the series is canceled, it does not bode well. “Pure Genius” is the only freshman CBS series this season not to get an additional episode order.

“Bull,” “Kevin Can Wait,” “Man With a Plan,” “MacGyver,” and “The Great Indoors” have all been picked up for additional episodes at the network. However, all remaining scheduled episodes of “Pure Genius” will air as planned.

The series follows the staff of the technologically advanced Bunker Hill Hospital, which was established by a Silicon Valley billionaire. It stars Dermot Mulroney, Augustus Prew, Odette Annable, Reshma Shetty, Aaron Jennings, Ward Horton and Brenda Song.

Jason Katims and Michelle Lee serve as executive producers, with David Semel executive producing the pilot. The show is produced Universal Studios in association with CBS Television Studios.

The series has been dogged by lackluster ratings from the start. The premiere episode drew 6.2 million viewers and just a 1.0 rating in the key adults 18-49 demographic. The most recent episode on Nov. 17 averaged just 5.5 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.

CBS currently has four midseason shows on the docket: “Doubt,” “Training Day,” “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” and “Ransom.”
