NBC has given a pilot orders to two new Universal Television comedy projects, “The Pro” and “Lifesaver.”
“Park and Recreation’s” Rob Lowe stars in the single-camera comedy, “The Pro,” as a former doubles champion who is reunited with his ex-partner after a public feud that left them both floundering in life.
Set in and around a tennis and golf club, “The Pro” is written and executive produced by former “Late Show With David Letterman” writers and “Tracy Morgan Show” producers Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory. Also executive producing are Karey Burke (“Go On”), Marc Gurvitz (“Real Time with Bill Maher”) and Todd Holland (“Go On”), who will also direct the pilot for ABC Studios and Universal TV.
“Lifesaver” is a multi-camera comedy that portrays an odd couple described as two polar opposites who become inextricably linked by a unique circumstance. It asks the question, “How do you get rid of the most maddening person in the world after he’s given you a kidney?”
Wil Calhoun (“Whitney”) is writing and executive producing “Lifesaver.” Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplan of TBD Entertainment (“Do No Harm”) are executive producing.
The two projects will go into contention for series pickups with NBC’s other comedies: “Mission Control,” an astronaut comedy from “Anchorman’s” Will Ferrell and “Parenthood’s” Jason Katims; “Love Is Relative” from “Roseanne” and “That ’70s Show” executive producer Tom Werner; “Mason Twins” from “Happy Endings” alum Casey Wilson and June Raphael; “A to Z” from Rashida Jones-Will McCormack’s production company, Le Train Train; and Kate Walsh-starrer “Bad Judge.”
