Michael London Signs First Look Deal With Fox 21

Michael London’s banner Groundswell Prods. has inked a first look deal with Fox 21.

Deal calls for London to develop and produce cable projects exclusively for the studio with Groundswell’s prez of production Janice Williams and director of development Shary Shirazi.

London’s credits reside primarily in the film space, where he has produced critically acclaimed pics including “Thirteen,” “Milk,” “Win Win” and “Sideways.”

Fox 21 prez Bert Salke sees the deal with London as representative of the broader transition being made by film honchos into the TV arena.

“Michael is awesome,” Salke remarked. “For 25 years, he has had as good of taste as anyone in town. We like to think we’re a little snobby about who we work with…He’s been interested in building a television business, and the deal was really mutual. He really has staked the ground of high end independent film. It says a lot that someone with Michael’s taste is interested in making this push into cable TV.”

In television, London already has comedy pilot “Betas” set up at Amazon, and has sold three major projects thus far this season including Oliver Sacks’ drama “Sparks” to NBC, “ZE” to the CW, and “The Astronaut Wives Club” to ABC.

Groundswell Prods. is repped by WME and Michael Schenkman at Bloom Hergott Diemer Rosenthal Laviolette Feldman Schenkman & Goodman.
