Martin Tahse, Producer of Afterschool Specials, Dies

Martin Tahse, a producer of numerous ABC Afterschool Specials as well as similar content at other networks who was the winner of two Daytime Emmys, has died.

Tahse was the producer or executive producer of more than 20 ABC Afterschool Specials starting with 1974′s “Pssst! Hammerman’s After You!” and ending with 1989′s “Just Tipsy, Honey,” which he wrote as well as produced. Others included “Dear Lovey Hart: I Am Desperate,” “What Are Friends For?” and “A Desperate Exit.”

He won Daytime Emmys in 1978 for outstanding children’s informational special for ABC Afterschool Specials episode “Very Good Friends” (aka “Beat The Turtle Drum”) and in 1981 for outstanding children’s entertainment special for the ABC Afterschool Specials episode “A Matter of Time.”

Tahse received three additional nominations.

He also produced a pair of ABC Weekend Specials and, in 1985, the CBS Schoolbreak Special “Ace Hits the Big Time.”

Tahse was a member of WGA West since 1975.
