Te’o says he was tricked into believing that his online girlfriend, whom he never met in person, died of leukemia earlier this year. As the Web site Deadspin uncovered last week, that girlfriend never existed.
Couric’s talk with Te’o, who will be accompanied by his parents, will air Thursday on her syndicated talk show Katie. Earlier in the week, ABC will air excerpts of the episode on Good Morning America and other news programs.
An ESPN reporter interviewed Te’o Friday night, but the athlete’s representatives did not want the discussion recorded on camera.
