Demi Moore says the drowning that occurred at her Los Angeles home on Sunday while she was out of town is an “unthinkable tragedy.”

“I am in absolute shock. I was out of the country traveling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news,” Moore said in a statement issued to TheWrap. “The loss of a child is an unthinkable tragedy and my heart goes out to this young man’s family and friends. I ask that you please respect the privacy of all concerned during this sensitive time.”

The victim was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool in Moore’s backyard. He had been attending a party hosted by one of the star’s assistants, officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department told TheWrap.

Officer Lopez described the deceased as “a 21-year-old male Hispanic from Los Angeles.” However, police would not release his name, and the coroner’s office did not respond to requests for comment.

“An assistant had a small gathering of about six individuals,” Lopez said, adding that the man was among the half dozen guests at Moore’s home located in the 9700 block of Oak Pass Road.

Police and members of the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to 911 calls at the house around 5 a.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the drowning was considered accidental.

TMZ first reported the news, and posted a photo of three squad cars and the coroner’s van parked outside Moore’s home.
