Krysten Ritter To Star In, Produce NBC Pilot ‘Assistance’; Inks First-Look Uni TV Deal

Krysten Ritter is eying a quick return to primetime. The star of ABC’s recently cancelled Don’t Trust The B—- In Apt. 23 has been tapped as the lead of NBC‘s single-camera comedy pilot Assistance, from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Prods and Universal TV. Ritter also will serve as a producer on the project, written by Leslye Headland. Additionally, I’ve learned that Ritter, who was hotly pursued for comedy pilots the moment she became available last month, has signed a first-look deal with Universal TV.

Based on a play by Headland, Assistance is described as a fast-moving comedy centered on Nora (Ritter), an idealistic “working girl” assistant who is pulled between her colleague (“work husband”) and her real-life fiance while trying to manage a demanding (translation: crazy) boss. Despite largely positive response from critics and a cult following, Don’t Trust The B— couldn’t find a wide audience and was hurt by ABC’s decision to move it to Tuesday this season. As a producer, Ritter recently developed and executive produced the MTV pilot Cassandra French’s Finishing School for Boys. She is with WME, The Group Entertainment, Sanders Armstrong Caserta and attorney Dave Feldman.
