Joss Whedon Says No Loki for ‘Avengers 2′

Marvel fans could not be happier that Joss Whedon is making the rounds to plug his indie “Much Ado About Nothing” because with each new interview, “The Avengers” helmer seems to dribble out an update on the impending sequel.

In his latest interview for Empire Magazine’s podcast, he says that Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, will not return for the next installment and explains why.

““First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well,” Whedon says. “Second of all, Loki’s not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back. Not as an insult. It’s just a nice word.”

Loki isn’t completely left out of the Marvel universe, though, with the latest trailer for “Thor: The Dark World” clearly showing his involvement in that sequel. But it’s a smart move by Whedon to make it clear Loki will no longer have a role as the Avengers’ main threat.

Most chatter has been so focused on Aaron Taylor-Johnson joining the cast as Quicksilver and who might play Scarlet Witch that it seems to have have been ignored that the role of Marvel baddie Thanos has yet to be cast. Perhaps because it’s a voice role, as the character is mostly CGI, fans haven’t talked as much about the part, but that role is also likely to be cast soon.
