There is a lot of finger pointing in Washington lately over who is responsible for the shutdown of the federal government, Jon Stewart noted on Tuesday’s edition of “The Daily Show.”

He argued that Republicans are playing the blame game in order to skirt their own culpability for bringing the Beltway to a halt in the name of stopping the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Among their favorite targets are President Obama, the Democratic party and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D – Nev.).

“They didn’t do it,” Stewart said. “They blame O.J.”

“Any way, the party of personal responsibility ain’t taken none,” he added.

Stewart than dug up an interview between House Speaker John Boehner (R – Ohio) and George Stephanopoulos, in which the Republican leader acknowledged he had conversations with Reid about reaching an agreement to continue full government funding.

Of course, that didn’t happen. Along with his fellow House Republicans in congress, he said the party decided that Obamacare was dangerous enough that they needed to take a stand.

‘You think Obamacare is a big enough threat to this country that you have to shut down the government over it,” Stewart said. “Fine. Own it. Don’t fart and point at the dog.”
