John Oliver Explains Trump’s Victory and What People Should Do Now

On Last Week Tonight, John Oliver focused the entire show on the election results. Like much of America, John has spent the past few days trying to come to terms with Donald Trump as the next president of the United States. The former Daily Show correspondent felt it was important to figure out why Trump won and gave examples like, “Misleading forecasts that bred complacency, a flawed candidate who failed to appeal to white rural and working-class voters, and — and this is worth repeating — deep racism and/or indifference to it.”

While many people are threatening to move out of the country, John said that type of thinking is not the answer, and that people need to stay here and get more involved. John urged people to donate to organizations that might need help under the Trump administration. And he also wanted people not to get comfortable and start to feel like this is normal, saying, “Because a Klan-backed, misogynist, Internet troll is going to be delivering the next State of the Union address, and that’s not normal.”

Last Week Tonight airs Sundays at 11 p.m. on HBO.
