Joe Voci, Former Comedy VP at CBS, Dies at 51

Joe Voci, former VP of comedy programming at CBS, died Feb. 7 in New Jersey after a long fight with brain cancer. He was 51.

He also oversaw production of ABC’s “The Wonder Years.”

Voci started his TV career at New World Television, where he worked on “The Wonder Years,” the nostalgic sitcom starring Fred Savage. While at CBS, he oversaw series including “Murphy Brown,” “The Nanny” and “Designing Women,” successful comedies that helped boost the network to No. 1.

After leaving CBS in 1994, Voci ran production company JVTV and was also a partner at Mandalay Television. During his first development season in 1998, all three of his pilots were picked up to series.

Voci also produced specials and performances for the Pussycat Dolls.

He is survived by his mother, Kass; two brothers; a sister; and two nieces.
