Is Jimmy Fallon in store for a big promotion at NBC?

The New York Daily News reports that NBC executives are currently exploring the fate of The Tonight Show once current host Jay Leno's contract expires in 2014. Late Night host Jimmy Fallon, who has been host since early 2009, could be poised to take over the earlier show. Talent agents have been quietly contacted by NBC who are hoping to find a new "late-late" host to eventually take over Fallon's duties, according to the report. Does this mean current late-late host Carson Daly would also be out of the gig?

It was almost three years ago that Leno took back his Tonight Show berth after NBC unsuccessfully tried to give him his own daily show airing at 10/9c. The move allowed NBC to keep Leno at the network while also giving Late Night host Conan O'Brien the Tonight Show after 16 years of following Leno. O'Brien ended up leaving the network and he now hosts a late-night show, Conan, on TBS.
