JFK Assassination Movie ‘Parkland’ Shifted Back to Oct. 4
Exclusive Releasing has moved back the release of the John F. Kennedy assassination drama “Parkland,” starring Zac Efron, Marcia Gay Harden and Paul Giamatti, to Oct. 4.
The newly minted distributor is timing the opening to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Nov. 22, 1963, the day Kennedy was killed in Dallas. “Parkland” is premiering at the Venice Film Festival and will have its North American premiere at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival.

Two wide releases are set for the Sept. 20 date — Warner’s Hugh Jackman drama “Prisoners” and Sony’s actioner “Battle of the Year.” “Parkland” will open against Warner’s sci-fi thriller “Gravity,” starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, and Fox’s thriller “Runner Runner.”
The film, directed by Peter Landesman from his own script, recounts the aftermath of the assassination and is named after Parkland Hospital in Dallas, where Kennedy expired. It’s produced by Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, Bill Paxton and Exclusive Media’s Nigel Sinclair and Matt Jackson.
Cast includes James Badge Dale, Jackie Earle Haley, Colin Hanks, David Harbour, Ron Livingston, Jeremy Strong, Billy Bob Thornton and Jacki Weaver. Script is based on the book “Four Days in November” by Vincent Bugliosi.
Exclusive Releasing also debuted the trailer for “Parkland,” describing it as “The story you know, the people you don’t,” followed by Giamatti shooting footage (pictured above) of the assassination as Abraham Zapruder.
