Good Wife Season Finale Post Mortem: EP Robert King Confirms 'Alicia's With [Spoiler] Now'
In Sunday’s season finale of The Good Wife, Alicia finally made her decision: She’s joining fellow ship-jumper Cary to launch a new law firm!
But what about that other, arguably even bigger choice we were led to believe she was going to make — the one between husband (and newly-minted Governor) Peter and longtime crush Will? Although it seemed like the episode provided no clear-cut answer to that question, exec producer Robert King insists that when Alicia aligned herself with Cary she was essentially severing ties with Will.
“She’s leaving Lockhart/Gardner because she needs to create distance between herself and Will,” he explains. “She knows the kiss has opened a door and the only way to close it is to get away from him.”

Recalling the final minutes of the finale, King explains, “We think she’s [going to choose Will], but, in fact, she’s phoning Cary in order to do the opposite: to create distance between herself and Will.
“She needs to stop sexually obsessing [over] Will,” he adds, “because she’s with Peter now.” (Get Josh Charles’ take on the twisty ending here.)
But as Good Wife cocreator Michelle King noted in an interview with TVLine prior to Sunday’s finale, this doesn’t necessarily mark the end of the triangle. “We really hew closely to real-life, which is that people certainly have the intentions of finality in their decisions,” she said. “And sometimes they are final decisions and sometimes they end up not being the final decisions.”
