Glen Campbell's Wife Responds to Stepdaughter's Angry Plea
Kim Campbell is defending herself for putting her husband in a long-term care facility, saying the move was doctors' orders.
Glen Campbell Looks Back on Life and Career
Country icon Glen Campbell, 78, has been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease since 2011, and his condition reportedly took a turn for the worse this spring. Kim explains that it was doctors who convinced her that full-time professional care is a necessity.
Campbell's wife of 32 years wrote a letter to the Associated Press in response to her stepdaughter Debby's emotional — and accusatory — interview with Country Weekly, in which she criticized the Nashville care facility and made a plea to take her father back home with her to Arizona. Debby also accused Kim and her children of infrequent visits to see the singer.
"It is crushingly sad to see him afflicted with Alzheimer's, but indulging those feelings does not help him," Kim wrote. "I am his wife and no one wants him home more than me but I must do what is in his best interest."
Kim further defends her devotion to the "Rhinestone Cowboy," insisting that she visits her husband every day, and that her two Nashville-based children visit him weekly. She insists that she is involved not only in his therapy but also in making sure he is comfortable and happy.
"He has longtime friends here in Nashville who come to play music for him and give him hugs," Kim reports. "He has activities and therapies to stimulate him and help him experience daily moments of success. His life is filled with love and laughter and he is being cared for round the clock by people who specialize in Alzheimer's care and happen to adore him."
