Gang of ‘Thrones’ Guest Stars Rise Above the Fray

It’s no easy task to stand out among a cast of 50 regulars, hundreds of extras, elaborate sets, exotic locations and kitty-cat sized dragons. Yet somehow, a select few of “Game of Thrones” guest stars have managed to catch the eye of both HBO fanboys and, perhaps, ATAS voters.

One-time Office drone Mackenzie Crook turned in a promising performance as wildling Orell, a scout with the gift of sight. Not one for close ties, one of his key scenes includes cutting Jon Snow and Ygritte’s rope while scaling the ice wall after his comrades took a tumble.

Ciaran Hinds adds his acting chops to “Thrones’” third season as Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall. The vet screen and stage actor offers an air of authority to the part as he stares down Jon Snow, attempting to find fault with the former member of the Night’s Watch.

Noah Taylor’s Locke made an impression on fans by torturing Jaime Lannister the Kingslayer by cutting off his hand and making him wear it the way a temp would wear a key card.

Love Actually’s Thomas Brodie-Sangster has long since moved on from trying to soothe the broken heart of middle-aged stepfathers to the psychic business.

As Jojen Reed, he and his sister Meera (Ellie Kendrick) join Bran Stark, wildling Osha, lovable Hodor, the slightly disconcerting Rickon Stark and a whole host of three-eyed dream crows in the zaniest road trip ever. Best moment: Staring down a dire wolf. Then Osha. Both were equally frightening.
