Game of Thrones Star Emilia Clarke Joins Star Wars Han Solo Spinoff Film

First, she rode a dragon; now she might be riding the Millennium Falcon.

Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has joined the cast of the upcoming Star Wars spinoff film about a young Han Solo, according to our sister site Variety. Clarke will reportedly play the female lead, but no further details on the role have been released. And she’s not the first to go from Game of Thrones to Star Wars: Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth on the HBO fantasy series, was in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Captain Phasma.

Alden Ehrenreich will star as the young Han Solo, the role originated by Harrison Ford in the first Star Wars trilogy. Atlanta star Donald Glover co-stars as a young Lando Calrissian, the smuggler character originally played by Billy Dee Williams. The spinoff film will be set before the events of the first Star Wars film, 1977’s A New Hope, and is slated for a May 2018 release.

Clarke is currently filming Season 7 of Game of Thrones, which premieres next summer, with production on the Han Solo film set to start in January. Thrones will run for two more seasons, with the series wrapping up with Season 8 in 2018.
