'Fantastic Beasts' Star Eddie Redmayne Reveals His Patronus on 'Colbert'

Eddie Redmayne was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about the highly-anticipated Harry Potter-spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The subject of Patronuses came up, and no I’m not misspelling the name of your favorite tequila. According the official Pottermore website, Patronuses are: “a guardian which acts as a shield between you and the Dementor…a projection of the very things that the Dementor feeds upon – hope, happiness, the desire to survive – but it cannot feel despair, as real humans can, so the Dementors can’t hurt it.”

Redmayne told Colbert how he found out what his Patronus is. “On Pottermore, this website, J.K. Rowling’s website, there is this new Patronus finder thing, and they basically ask you all these questions and there’s all these algorithms to what your Patronus is,” he explained.

“I did it once, and I came up as a basset hound,” he said to laughter. “It’s not the most dangerous, it’s not the most dangerous to have,” pointed out Colbert. “Nor threatening, kind of doe-eyed, and I thought it was quite sweet,” agreed Redmayne.

Wanting to double check to see if maybe he didn’t have a more intimidating animal, Redmayne took the quiz once again. “Because of the algorithms it’s basically impossible to get the same, statistically impossible to get the same Patronus twice, but I was a basset hound twice,” he said.
