Family Emergency Forces Baker to Leave ‘Great American Baking Show’

On the two-hour premiere of ABC’s The Great American Baking Show, one of the contestants, Antoinette Love, had to leave early due to a family emergency. Unfortunately, Antoinette’s father passed away during the taping of the show.

During Thursday night’s broadcast, Antoinette posted a message on her Facebook page, accompanied by two photos of her father. In the post she wrote, “During filming I lost the most important man in my world, my father. I will press forward and continue this baking journey. I know without a doubt that’s what he would want for me.”

The silver lining in the tragic situation was that the last thing Antoinette baked before she left got second place. Baking legend, Mary Berry, loved Antoinette’s biscotti cookies, which was surprising considering Antoinette had never made biscotti before this competition.

The Great American Baking Show airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
