European Film Bonds Ramps Up Operations with High Profile Pix (EXCLUSIVE)
LONDON — European Film Bonds is ramping up its global operation by providing the completion guarantee for a number of major productions, including Sarah Gavron’s “Suffragette,” along with other new titles including “Bill,” “Second Origin,” and Julian Jarrold’s “Girls’ Night Out.”
Since recently announcing the appointment of Peter La Terriere in London, and the expansion of the company’s operation into a number of major territories, such as the U.K., Australia and Spain, EFB has boarded several high-profile productions, reflecting the company’s growing impact on the bonding market.
EFB is attached to “Suffragette,” starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson and Meryl Streep for Pathe, the BFI and Film4. It is also behind Julian Jarrold’s “Girls’ Night Out,” currently shooting in Hull and starring Sarah Gadon, Bel Powley, Jack Reynor, Rupert Everett and Emily Watson.
Other new titles include Michael Hoffman’s “Best of Me,” Susanne Bier’s “En Chance Til,” starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Corinna McFarlane’s “Silent Storm,” starring Damian Lewis and Andrea Riseborough.
Other features EFB is currently bonding include:
– “Bill,” from the creators of the popular children’s TV show “Horrible Histories,” for BFI, BBC and Koch Media.
– Spanish co-production “Second Origin,” starring Rachel Hurd-Wood. The film has just started shooting in Lleda, Barcelona, through EFB’s new Spanish office, Iberoamericana Film Bonds, led by Jesus Prieto and Fernando Labrada.
– Australian-Chinese co-production “The Moon and the Sun,” starring Pierce Brosnan and Fan Bingbing.
– “The Salvation,” its first South African production for Zentropa, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Eva Green.
As part of its broadening business, EFB is also bonding high-end TV drama, including Ole Bornedal’s epic war drama “1864,” which is the largest production ever in Denmark, and is set to be aired later this year. The BBC has already acquired the show.
EFB co-founder and CEO, Per Neumann, said: “Our growing slate and quality of these titles is a healthy indication that we are now regarded as a fully international operation with the ability to work with partners across the globe.”
EFB was founded by Neumann, Nina Crone and Hans Lonnerheden, and the head office is in Copenhagen. Recent productions they have bonded include “Nymphomaniac,” “Starred Up,” “Walking on Sunshine,” “Filth” and “Dom Hemingway.”
