Elizabeth Banks Developing Family Comedy ‘Something to Celebrate’ at CBS

Elizabeth Banks is adding yet another project to her production slate.

The multi-hyphenate actress, producer and director is on board to exec produce “Something To Celebrate,” a family comedy series in development at CBS.

Vera Santamaria is writer on the project, which based on the original series created for Secuoya Distribution and Antena 3. She will serve as executive producer with Banks and Max Handelman. Warner Bros., where Banks and Handelman’s Brownstone Productions is based, is the studio.

The single-camera comedy follows four adult siblings work in their family’s popular bakery and enjoy the fun of being in a second-generation American family that loves a celebration.

Santamaria is a writer/producer whose credits include “BoJack Horseman,” “Schitt’s Creek,” “Community,” “Playing House,” the “Degrassi” franchise and the Canadian series “How To Be Indie,” which she co-created.

For husband-and-wife team Banks and Handelman, “Something To Celebrate” marks the producing partners’ first-ever major network sale. Last year, their Brownstone Prods. inked an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television with the intent to develop new TV projects, following their success in the film world with the “Pitch Perfect” movies that they produce. (Banks backed out of directing “Pitch Perfect 3,” but she and Handelman are both returning to produce the fan-favorite flick.) The banner is behind a number of other films currently in development, plus Hulu’s “Resident Advisors,” which marked their first series project. On screen, Banks is reprising her role in “Pitch Perfect 3,” and is starring in the upcoming “Power Rangers” reboot.

Brownstone Prods., Banks and Handelman are repped by UTA. Paradigm reps the original Spanish format through Secuoya.
