DC vs. Marvel: Universes Collide in Epic Mashup Movie Trailer (Video)

A comic book crossover movie may be a logistical impossibility, but that didn’t stop one fan from making it a reality in the most epic superhero trailer ever conceived. It’s right there in the title: “Marvel vs DC Epic Trailer.”

Created by a YouTuber who goes by the moniker Alex Luthor, the trailer explores the concept of a multiverse, a concept both Marvel and DC have used for years in their respective universes. Through this conceit, though, the trailer is able to bring together Marvel characters from Sony (Spider-Man), Fox (X-Men, Fantastic Four) and Marvel Studios, as well as DC characters appearing in Warner Bros. films and on television networks like The CW and Fox.

In the first minute alone, fans are treated to clips of Spider-Man, the Hulk, Flash, Batman, Doctor Doom, Superman, Iron Man and Thor. But these aren’t just snippets of the characters. Through clever editing, Luthor is able to make Christian Bale‘s Batman talk to Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark, while Thor can look up to see Superman hovering over him.

Hawkeye takes on Green Arrow, as Wonder Woman and the Hulk fight on the streets of New York, and Green Lantern fires energy bullets at Captain America. It’s a superhero battle for the ages, and all it took was some deft editing. Even the X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy get in on the action.

Back in the 1990s, in a rare era of cross-company cooperation, Marvel and DC published a crossover event pitting their greatest heroes against one another. With both poised to dominate on the big and small screens, maybe it’s time to give fans what they want.

Based on the meteoric response to this trailer, which picked up more than 1 million viewers in its first day online and is trending toward the top of Facebook, this is an idea whose time has come. Even if it was just one fight after the other, fans would line up around the block for the chance to see it … after arguing over which hero would win each match-up.
