‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Box Office Business Unaffected By Massacre
The horrific shooting in Aurora, Colorado isn’t having any effect on the early box office numbers for ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ according to a new report. Read on for details.
The tragic massacre in Aurora, Colorado, where a crazed gunman opened fire in a movie theater during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises on Friday, July 20 would be cause for many to avoid the movie theaters. But a new report indicates that box office business for the film isn’t slowing down.
According to Deadline Hollywood, Warner Bros. executives say they are seeing no decrease in movie ticket grosses. The website states that the reason for this is because most of Friday’s grosses, and a good portion of this weekend’s, consist of $30 million in pre-sale tickets. So, whether those with tickets actually attend the screening or not, the money is already made. The real effect of the shooting won’t be felt until Saturday, at the earliest.
The official North American midnight sales figure is $30.6 million, with additional international grosses at $10.4 million. These figures, combined with the pre-sale numbers, place the film with a total gross of $71 million, currently.
