Dan Stevens to Star With John Travolta, Michael Pitt in ‘Criminal Activities’

With a big year ahead of him at the theater, Dan Stevens is looking to continue to stay busy as the former “Downton Abbey” actor has joined the cast of the drama “Criminal Activities” helmed by Jackie Earle Haley.

Pic also stars John Travolta and Michael Pitt and follows four friends who make a risky investment together that puts them in trouble with the mob.

The film is a co-production between Capacity Pictures, Phoenix Rising Motion Pictures and Producer Capital Fund. Wayne Rice, Howard Burd and Micah Sparks are producing.

The film will go into production in June.

Though the role is darker than that of his character on “Downton Abbey,” Stevens has proven his ability to take on edgier roles after receiving rave reviews for playing a super soldier with a psychotic edge in “The Guest.”

Besides “The Guest,” premiering in the U.K. in September, Stevens has three more films set to bow this year: “A Walk Among Tombstones,” which is another dark turn for Stevens as he plays a drug dealer opposite Liam Neeson; “The Cobbler,” where he co-stars with Adam Sandler, and the next installment in “The Night at the Museum” franchise, where he will play Lancelot.

He is repped by WME and Julian Belfrage Associates.
