Dan Dworkin & Jay Beattie Ink Overall Deal With ABC Studios, Join ABC Pilot ‘Kingmakers’ As Showrunners

Drama writer-producing duo Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie (Criminal Minds) have signed a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios. While the pact is not formally kicking in until June 1, Dworkin and Beattie are already working on an ABCS project — they have signed on as executive producers/showrunners on the studio’s ABC drama pilot Kingmakers, written by Revenge producer Sallie Patrick.

Kingmakers,

which like Revenge features on a twentysomething taking on a new identity after a loved one had been taken away, centers on a young man whose sister is found dead during her freshman year at an elite Ivy League university. He adopts a new identity to infiltrate the school and its century-old secret society – consisting of privileged students, ambitious faculty, and high-profile alums – in order to investigate her death. Dworkin and Beattie will executive produce with Patrick. The trio met and worked together on ABC/ABCS’ Revenge where Dworkin and Beattie served as consulting producers from 2011 to 2013.

Dworkin and Beattie recently co-wrote with Roberto Orci and executive produced/ran action drama series Matador for El Rey, which ran for one season after the network opted out of a second season for financial reasons.

Dworkin and Beattie, repped by ICM Partners, also wrote the original pilot script for MTV’s Scream series. The two were in production on Matador and unavailable when the project was greenlighted.
