Bryan Cranston Reveals Secret Behind Classic ‘Seinfeld’ Scene
On Tuesday’s Live With Kelly, host Kelly Ripa and her guest co-host, Tyler Perry, sat down with actor Bryan Cranston. The former Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle star got to talking about a role he played early in his career on the hit show Seinfeld.
Cranston played Jerry Seinfeld’s dentist, Tim Whatley, and recalled one scene in particular when Jerry suspected he may have been violated while under the gas at the dentist’s office. As it turns out, the idea behind one memorable moment from that scene, when Cranston’s character is giving the gas to Jerry, came from an unlikely source while Cranston was between rehearsals.
“I hear, ‘Hey, you know what would be funny?’ I look around, up on a ladder was a guy adjusting a light. I said, ‘What?’ He goes, ‘It will be funny if before you gave it to Jerry, you took a hit yourself first,’” Cranston recalled.
When Cranston pulled the move during showtime, Seinfeld cracked up and it ended up taking them more than 10 takes to get the shot without laughing.
