‘Bonfire of the Vanities’ Series From Chuck Lorre in the Works at Amazon
Chuck Lorre is developing a limited series adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s “Bonfire of the Vanities” at Amazon, TheWrap has learned.
The series is described as a drama about ambition, racism, social class, politics and greed in 1980s New York City. In the novel, there were three main characters: bond trader Sherman McCoy, assistant district attorney Larry Kramer and journalist Peter Fallow.
The Tom Wolfe novel, “Bonfire of the Vanities,” was previously adapted into a feature film (pictured above) in 1990 starring Tom Hanks, Melanie Griffith and Bruce Willis.

Margaret Nagle, who is coming off of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” is writing the Amazon project, and will executive produce alongside Lorre. Mother Jones editor David Corn will serve as a consultant.
The new “Bonfire of the Vanities” comes from Amazon Studios and Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Lorre, best known for his CBS sitcoms such as “The Big Bang Theory” and “Two and a Half Men,” recently branched out to partner with the burgeoning streaming networks, also selling pot comedy “Disjointed” to Netflix with Kathy Bates set to star.
Amazon, home of the Emmy-winning “Transparent,” recently debuted Woody Allen‘s first TV series, “Crisis in Six Acts,” and recently picked up a live-action reboot of “The Tick.”
