Bobby Brown, Tito Jackson, and Others Honor Teddy Riley at ‘Soul Train Awards’

Teddy Riley was honored with the Legend Award at BET’s Soul Train Awards on Sunday night. Cedric the Entertainer presented Teddy with the award, and while talking about Teddy’s career, he said, “Teddy, like so many people, he started music in church. Then he went on to make music with other church-going folk, like Bobby Brown and Snoop Dogg.”

Teddy has had a long history in the music industry and is credited with creating the new jack swing genre. He was a member of the R & B groups Guy and Blackstreet, and while working on Wreckx-N-Effect’s hit, “Rump Shaker,” Teddy discovered Pharrell Williams. He is possibly best known in the music industry as a producer, having produced artists like Doug E. Fresh, Bobby Brown, and Michael Jackson.

After accepting the award, Teddy performed a medley of songs that he had been a part of over the years, and many stars joined him onstage for the jam session. Bobby Brown came out to sing a little of “My Prerogative,” Wreckx-N-Effect came out for “Rump Shaker,” and Tito Jackson played guitar on his brother Michael’s hit “Remember the Time.”
