Billy Crystal to Lead Emmy Awards Tribute to Robin Williams

Billy Crystal will pay tribute to his longtime friend and “Comic Relief” co-host Robin Williams on Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards telecast.

Crystal was the logical choice to lead the Emmy tribute segment, given his long history with Williams, Emmycast exec producer Don Mischer said Wednesday during the Emmy red-carpet rollout event outside the Nokia Theater in downtown L.A.

Crystal, Williams and Whoopi Goldberg hosted eight editions of the “Comic Relief” telethons on HBO during the 1980s and ’90s, as well as a 2006 event to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief.

Williams’ suicide on Aug. 11 at the age of 63 has rocked the showbiz community. Mischer confirmed last week that the telecast would feature a special tribute to the actor-comedian on the live telecast to air on NBC.
