Berlin: Asian Film Awards Set to Move to Macau (EXCLUSIVE)

The Asian Film Awards will this year relocate from Hong Kong to Macau, following the Hong Kong government’s withdrawal of financial support.

In their eighth edition, the awards are expected to be held March 27 at the City of Dreams casino resort in Cotai Strip.

A formal announcement is expected to be made Tuesday when nominations are unveiled at a ceremony in Hong Kong attended by organizers, filmmaker Peter Chan Ho-sun and star Donnie Yen.

Under a three-year deal between the kudos nonprofit organizer, the Hong Kong Intl. Film Festival Society, and casino group Melco Crown, the awards will be held for two years at the City of Dreams. In 2016 they move to Melco’s entertainment-themed Studio City, which is under construction.

A report by the audit department of the Hong Kong government in November 2012 suggested taxpayers should review funding for the awards. No Hong Kong film has won the best film prize.
