BBC Wants More Shows Starring ‘The Great British Bake Off’s’ Mary Berry
The BBC is keeping Mary Berry, until recently a judge on the U.K.’s most-popular show, “The Great British Bake Off,” tied to its apron strings with yet another starring role in a food-themed series.
The U.K. public broadcaster has commissioned Endemol-Shine’s Sidney Street to produce “Mary Berry Everyday,” which celebrates traditional British cuisine. The BBC previously ordered the same production company to serve up “Mary Berry’s Absolute Favorites” and “Mary Berry’s Foolproof Cooking.” Earlier this month, the broadcaster commissioned “Mary Berry’s Secrets From Britain’s Great Houses” from Shine TV, which follows the company’s “Mary Berry’s Easter Feast” last year.
In “Mary Berry Everyday,” the culinary guru will “celebrate the food and ingredients she turns to most as she proves that you don’t need an exotic larder or a chef’s repertoire to create delicious dishes every night of the week,” according to a BBC statement.
In the six-parter, “Mary travels to her mother’s childhood home, Scotland, to enjoy their venison, salmon and whisky; dons a white suit to try her hand at beekeeping in search of some delicious honey, a particular love of hers; pursues the history of the great British pie; and returns to her own childhood when she learns to milk a goat and make her own goat’s cheese.”
Karen Ross, managing director of Sidney Street, said: “This is Mary Berry at her best. Delicious, inspirational food cooked with the flair, warmth, humor and endless energy of the country’s best-loved cook.”
Ross is executive producer with Tom Edwards, BBC’s commissioning editor, formats and features, with Emma Boswell as series producer and Dave Crerar as series director.
The show, which was commissioned by Patrick Holland, channel editor for BBC Two, and Donna Clark, acting head of formats and features, will air in the New Year.
