BAFTA/LA Says Farewell to Barbara Hay

Networking was the name of the game June 2 at BAFTA/LA’s annual garden party as Brit bizzers mingled in the U.K. counsel general’s residence in Hancock Park.

Vicki Pepperdine and Joanna Scanlan, whose BBC sitcom “Getting On” is being remade by HBO, were making the rounds of Hollywood. “The universe invited us,” Pepperdine said. Other invitees could be overheard updating on the status of their screenplay or TV production.

BAFTA/LA’s Gary Dartnall said the party had a serious purpose as well. The money raised from a raffle drawing would go to benefit the org’s outreach to L.A.’s inner-city kids. “As creatives we want to find the next generation of talent,” he said.

Event was also a sendoff for the British counsel general, Barbara Hay, whose term in Los Angeles comes to a close in August. Among those offering her a cheerful farewell were BAFTA/LA’s Peter Knight and Don Haber plus guests Emily Mortimer, Dakota Johnson, Clelia Mountford and Jason Isaac.
