Alicia Keys Gets Political on ‘The Voice’ With ‘Holy War’ Performance

During The Voice live results show Tuesday night, the coaches performed onstage with their teams, and Alicia Keys got political with her performance. In the middle of her latest single, “Blended Family,” Alicia stopped the performance and said, “That’s my new song, ‘Blended Family,’ that I was supposed to sing tonight. But due to the current climate, there’s only one song I can sing, called ‘Holy War.’” The song preached love instead of hate with such lyrics as, “Maybe we should love somebody instead of polishing the bombs of holy war.”

The other coaches also made statement with their performances. Miley’s team had a more uplifting message with Dolly Parton’s “There’ll Always Be Music,” and Adam Levine went with the classic protest song “For What It’s Worth.”

As for who is moving on to next week, it came down to Sa’Rayah and Aaron Gibson. And America chose Aaron.

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
