ABC Family’s Sandy Varo Jarrell to Head TLC’s West Coast Development & Production
ABC Family reality head Sandy Varo Jarrell is joining TLC in the newly created position of senior vice president of production and development.
The role was created after TLC decided to merge its development and production departments and then place each coast under its own head reporting into general manager Nancy Daniels. Jarrell will oversee the strategic direction and storytelling tone of new and ongoing projects developed and produced in the network’s Los Angeles office.

“Sandy has a long and rich history of producing compelling, high-quality programming across a variety of networks and genres. Having had the opportunity to work with her before, I know she will be a valuable new member of the TLC team, and continue to bring our audience the strong characters and remarkable stories they tune in for day after day,” said Daniels in a statement.
Under the new structure, TLC has named Howard Lee the executive vice president of development and production for the East Coast. In the role, he’ll oversee all East Coast development in addition to his previous responsibilities, which includes the production of “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” the “Breaking Amish” franchise and “Long Island Medium.”

Jarrell headed up ABC Family’s unscripted programming and development. In the that role, she created the network’s nonfiction strategy and ushered projects through development to airing. Previously, she held executive positions at Lifetime (“One Born Every Minute,” “Picker Sisters,” and “How To Look Good Naked”) and CBS Entertainment (“Survivor,” “The Amazing Race”).
