Will and Robin Reiser are taking their brand of comedy to NBC.
The brother and sister pairing have nabbed a put pilot commitment for their half-hour project entitled The High Life. The comedic effort will focus on the trials and tribulations of a misguided young woman, who’s newly sober and trying to navigate motherhood, work and marriage – all of which makes her want to drink.
Joining the Reisers, who co-created the Twentieth Century Fox TV project and will co-write and executive produce, are New Girl’s JJ Philbin and Jake Kasdan as well as Thruline Entertainment partner (and Will Reiser manager) Willie Mercer. Melvin Mar (Bad Teacher) is attached as a producer on the project.
To date, Will Reiser is best known for his work in film, breaking out with the 2011 cancer comedy 50/50, which was loosely based on his own life. The project, which he wrote and executive produced, garnered him the Indie Spirit Award for best first screenplay, along with best original screenplay from the National Board of Review.
More recently, he reteamed with his 50/50 collaborators Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and director Jonathan Levine for Jamaica, an upcoming movie inspired by a trip he took there at 14 with his grandmother. Additionally, Reiser is penning an animated feature for Dreamworks.
Robin Reiser is better known for her stand-up fare, though television audiences may recognize her from her commentary on Oxygen and E! She has also appeared on TBS' Love Bites and NBC's Last Comic Standing.
As for Kasdan, the news comes mere weeks after he inked an overall deal with 20th TV. He's proved a valuable comedy asset for the studio, heavily involved with New Girl (as an executive producer and Emmy-nominated director) and brought in earlier this year to helm the pilot for Fox's Ben & Kate, which has critics buzzing ahead of its fall premiere. Kasdan and Philbin, a writer and consulting producer on New Girl, were among those who shared in the Fox comedy's WGA nomination for best new series in 2011.
The Reisers were represented on the deal by UTA, Thruline and Lichter Gorssman; Philbin is repped by UTA and 3 Arts; Kasdan and Mar are repped by WME.
