5 Biggest Shockers From the Critics' Choice Award Nominations
"Girls," "The Walking Dead," "Modern Family" are snubbed.
"Girls" won't be having any fun at this year's Critics' Choice Awards. Neither will zombies, Liz Lemon, or Don Draper.
The Broadcast Television Journalists Association announced their nominees for the Critics' Choice Awards, and the list is most notable for the shows and stars missing from it. The snubs include two of TV's biggest hits, as well as one awards darling.
One hit that did get a nomination: "Duck Dynasty," in the reality series category (though some would argue that it's such a funny show, it'd clean up in comedy too).

Two new shows elbowed their way into the already-overcrowded drama space: FX's "The Americans," which landed in the best drama category, and Netflix's "House of Cards," which netted nods for Kevin Spacey and Corey Stoll.
But their inclusion means the absence of others. Let's look at some of the biggest shockers among the nominations:
1. "Girls" gone missing.
One would think the critics would nominate a critical darling. But no, this is one awards show that won't be all about "Girls." Though it received a nomination last year, only star Lena Dunham got a nod this time.
2. "The Walking Dead" is DOA.
AMC's zombie drama became an even bigger ratings hit last season; it's the No. 1 show among the coveted 18-49 demographic. But clearly, it's not No. 1 in the hearts of BTJA voters — "The Walking Dead" wasn't nominated last year either.

3. Nobody likes "Modern Family" anymore?
The popular comedy did hit a ratings bump this year, but it's still a favorite at the Emmys and Golden Globes. It seems that its ABC sibling "The Middle" took its best comedy slot.
4. What's the deal with the reality categories?
Other than "Pawn Stars," the reality-series category is a complete overhaul from last year. "Duck Dynasty" definitely deserves to be there due to its sheer viewership, but "The Moment"? "Small Town Security"? Does anyone actually watch those shows? Where's "The Voice's" nod?
(And, just like last year, the broadcast journalists still don't like "American Idol" or "Dancing With the Stars," but we're OK with that.)

5. Best talk show nominee ... "Marie"?!
"Conan" ... "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" ... "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" ... "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" ... "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" … "Marie."
One of these things is not like the other.
