'The Jeffersons' vs. 'Gilligan's Island': Vote for the Best TV Theme Songs

George Jefferson stands toe-to-toe with Gilligan in the Final Four of Yahoo! TV's Theme Song Thunderdome.

With March Madness in full swing, we decided to do a TV-themed bracket of our own: a no-holds-barred tournament to determine the best TV theme song of all time. After lots of heated debate, we've selected and ranked 32 of the most memorable TV theme songs ever, pitting them against each other in a winner-takes-all bracket. Over the next few weeks, we're asking you to vote for your favorite theme songs until we get a winner -- and a few songs stuck in your heads.

(2) "The Jeffersons" ("Movin' On Up")

Will Smith might be the "Fresh Prince," but George Jefferson is the king of the castle. "The Jeffersons" moved on up past "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" last round, with the stomp-your-feet-and-clap-your-hands gospel exuberance of "Movin' On Up" earning a berth in our Final Four. In fact, George and Weezy haven't broken a sweat yet in this bracket, but they do face some stiff competition here from Gilligan and the Skipper. In fact, the Skipper looks a lot like Archie Bunker… and we all know how George Jefferson feels about that guy.

(12) "Gilligan's Island" ("The Ballad of Gilligan's Isle")

"Andy Griffith" has gone fishin' for good, thanks to "Gilligan's Island," which sailed on by Andy and Opie in a hard-fought Round 3 matchup. "Gilligan" started out as a lowly 12-seed, but has already knocked off a formidable lineup of theme songs, including "Diff'rent Strokes" and "The Addams Family." Yes, we clearly misjudged the ageless appeal of this lovable sea shanty, which packs the entire "Gilligan" story into one very catchy minute. But it'll take more than a coconut phone to get past a juggernaut like "The Jeffersons." This one should come down to the wire, but we like George and Weezy's chances of landing a dee-luxe apartment in the finals.
