'Cheers' vs. 'Laverne & Shirley': Vote for the Best TV Theme Songs

Sam and Diane, or Laverne and Shirley? You decide in Round 3 of Yahoo! TV's Theme Song Thunderdome.

With March Madness in full swing, we decided to do a TV-themed bracket of our own: a no-holds-barred tournament to determine the best TV theme song of all time. After lots of heated debate, we've selected and ranked 32 of the most memorable TV theme songs ever, pitting them against each other in a winner-takes-all bracket. Over the next few weeks, we're asking you to vote for your favorite theme songs until we get a winner -- and a few songs stuck in your heads.

(1) "Cheers" ("Where Everybody Knows Your Name")

In a battle between two dudes with major mojo, Sam Malone topped Arthur Fonzarelli last round as "Cheers" breezed by "Happy Days." Now this top seed faces a couple of Fonzie's old pals, "Laverne & Shirley," in Round 3. We don't see "Cheers" slowing down anytime soon, though. "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" is the Babe Ruth of theme songs, and this beer-soaked piano ballad still packs an emotional punch that should clinch it a spot in our Final Four.

(5) "Laverne & Shirley" ("Making Our Dreams Come True")

You just can't keep a pair of plucky gals down, can you? These two misses from Milwaukee surprised us by bouncing Archie and Edith Bunker out of the tournament in Round 2. And we still love singing along with their '70s girl-power theme song. ("Shlemiel, shlemazel, Hasenpfeffer Incorporated"!) But even though the lyrics say "there's no stopping us," we're thinking their improbable run does stop here. If the Fonz himself couldn't beat "Cheers," we don't think "L&S" have much of a shot. (Sorry, ladies.)
