What followed was a standoff that lasted more than six hours. The Los Angeles Times reported that after trying to peacefully negotiate with the woman, SWAT officers fired flash bang grenades and tear gas into the home. The 32-year-old actor, who is best known for his role as Paul Finch in the "Pie" series, was not inside during the standoff. The woman was an overnight guest at his house and when she was asked to leave, she became agitated and armed herself.
According to the LAPD spokesperson, the woman – whose name has not yet been released – was taken into custody at around 7 p.m. and was hospitalized. She faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon as well as vandalism because property at the residence was destroyed.
Actress Minnie Driver, who is Thomas's neighbor, witnessed the drama -- and shared the play-by-play with her Twitter followers from the safety of her own home.
"Armed man has barricaded himself into the house just below mine. Swarming police. My dog is on high alert. #noescape," Driver, who has a 4-year-old son, tweeted at 6 p.m.
Soon after, she wrote: "It's not an armed man, it's a disgruntled woman. Disgruntled is probably the wrong word..just had five rounds of [tear gas] explosions."
As for what she was doing to pass the time during the standoff, she noted, "We are all sitting on the floor in the living room. Henry has a baseball glove and I'm eyeing the wine. Feel sad for this barricaded woman," she wrote.
A rep for Thomas could not be reached for comment.
