History Made as 'Gravity' and '12 Years a Slave' Tie for Best Picture at Producers Guild Awards

For the first time in its 25-year history, the top prize at the Producers Guild Awards was bestowed upon producers of not one, but two films. At Sunday's PGA ceremony, The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures was persented to "12 Years A Slave"and"Gravity." A tie in this major category is unchartered territory, and it raises a major question: Which film will win the Oscar?

Hollywood insiders know that PGA and SAG members have their fingers on the pulse. The films and actors these unions honor at their respective ceremonies tend to win Oscar gold, like last year when Ben Affleck's "Argo" won Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures and emerged victorious a few weeks later at the 85th Academy Awards. But what Hollywood insiders don't know is how this will all pan out on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. With "American Hustle" winning Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at Saturday night's Screen Actors Guild Awards, we now have a legitimate, three-way Best Picture horse race with no real frontrunner in sight.

Hey, at least we won't have a repeat of the 81st Academy Awards with a movie like "Slumdog Millionaire" a lock to win the top prize. This uncertainly may cause some stress when filling out your ballot, but it also guarantees a night filled with nail-biting. It's the Oscars – the perfect place for a little drama, right?
